Our partners, at the Institut Curie, have organized a patient meeting on the 22nd of November where they have discussed clinical and scientific updates regarding UM.
The meeting had over 70 participants and counted with the collaboration of multiple members of our consortium.
Prof. Nathalie Cassoux gave an overview of the treatment options available for managing ocular UM. When dealing with UM, ophthalmologists can also provide information about the role of tumor biopsy for prognostication.
Dr. Marc-Henri Stern has presented about the genetic aspects of UM, meaning how the information written on UM cells helps doctors guiding further treatment and follow-up strategies. One of the recent treatments that has revolutionized skin melanoma is immunotherapy. Dr. Olivier Lantz spoke about the limitations of these new treatments in UM and new scientific discoveries on the subject.
For some patients, a clinical trial can be the best available treatment option. Dr. Sophie Piperno-Neumann explained the existing trials available and Dr. Alexis Burnod talked about other treatments that are meant to improve the quality of life of patients with cancer.
