The UM Cure 2020 Consortium met virtually on the 19th of June for the Progress Review Meeting 2020, to update project results and coordinate further steps.
The UM Cure 2020 Progress Review Meeting took place on the 19th of June, with a virtual one-day meeting.
During the meeting, all project partners provided an update and discussed the projects’ future directions. Interesting results were presented on the development of next generation UM preclinical models, with all the involved laboratories updating the most recent advances on their in vitro cellular models and in vivo animal models. These models mimic the disease, allowing to study its processes and test the effect of drugs in UM cells.
There was an overall update on dissemination materials such as UM brochure, COVID-19 and cancer brochure, and the new educational video on basic anatomy of the eye. MPNE representatives updated the outcomes of last patient meeting and the next future steps. The consortium also updated the collaborations with other European working groups and societies to improve UM patients' care.
Researchers provided the most recent results on characterisation of UM metastases and identification of novel targets for possible future disease treatments, and presented the plan for the in vivo animal model assessments of selected treatments, based on the preclinical results of biology-driven therapeutic approaches.
Ultimately, the consortium analysed the impact of the COVID-19 pandemic in the different laboratories/organisations, reviewed the next administrative deliverables, and planned the future steps of the project.
